Transneft says prevents oil contamination of Volga by Rosneft

MOSCOW, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft has prevented a flow of oil contaminated with chlorides into the pipeline system of the Volga Federal District, the company said in a statement on Monday.

“Oil with an excessive of content of chlor-organic compounds was localized in the reservoir parks of Transneft-Privolga. There was no threat of contamination of the (pipeline) system, we started preparation for technological procedures for normalization of oil. All customers receive oil of regulated quality,” the statement read.

On June 23, the company stopped pumping in the trunk pipelines Samara–Lopatino and Kuibyshev–Unecha-2 as it discovered a high content of chlor-organic compounds. On June 24, it discovered excess of the compounds in the oil samples from the reservoirs of the Mukhanovo pumping station.

The only company that pumps oil to the Mukhanovo station is Samaraneftegaz, a subsidiary of oil major Rosneft. An independent laboratory ran tests of the oil samples, and coordinated them with Transneft-Privolga and Samaraneftegaz. The tests also confirmed contamination, this is why Transneft suspended the intake of oil from Samaraneftegaz on June 25. The contaminated oil stands at 350,000 tonnes, the company said.
